Images are the key drawing attention to content. It’s especially true for social media, where you have literally a fraction of a second to make your follower stop scrolling their feed. If you are early on in your business you may not have the time to learn Photoshop and you may not have the cash flow to hire a graphic designer full time at this point.
You need professional images fast and you need them often. In this post you will discover my top 7 favorite free online photo editors.
Pixlr is a free online stripped down version of Photoshop and Gimp. You can design in layers, add gradients, apply filters etc and save to jpec, png, bmp and tiff files. This makes a pretty good option to get your first logo design started.
Along with the Pixlr Editor web app, they have desktop and mobile app (Pixlr Express and Pixlr O-Matic respectively) that you can download and use as well. Express and O-Matic are more for adding fun effects and filters to your photos than they are for editing.
Pixlr has been a life saver for me. It’s free and there is no need to register.
Fotor is another great photo editor that you can use for free online. You can create nice looking collages with it and there is a pretty handy social media banner creator that you can use as well
I found it more useful for creating really candid photos and cards.
You can get started with Fotor for free but to use all of the stock photos that they provide you will need to sign up for a trial membership.
Ribbet is another free online photo editor that I stumbled across recently. The layout was a little confusing to me at first but it’s the perfect tool for creating collages.
What I really like about Ribbet is that you can create shape collages. You upload up to 100 photos and it will arrange them into things like a heart, a peace sign or a palm tree. They’ve also partnered with Zazzle so you can place your designs on things like coffee mugs and posters.
You have to register to use all of the features but it’s free to get started.
Befunky is a really nice free photo editor and collage maker. It pretty does all of the things that Pixlr does and it’s ultra light weight. There are lot a few really dope preset effects that you can add to your photos to make them stick out.
I really like the “cartoonizer” effect. it gives your photo a natural looking water color look and doesn’t appear as digital.
Overall it makes photo editing quick and easy and as an entrepreneur, the less painful is for me to create nice images for my content the better.
Befunky is totally free to use but you can upgrade for a small yearly fee to have access to more effect options, graphics and output resolution higher than 2500 pixels.
PicMonkey is another photo editing tool you should keep in your back pocket. It’s great for photo editing, more specifically, adding cool textures to photos. At least that’s what I’ve used it for.
It’s also good for making collages for your professional needs.
You can easily upload from OneDrive, Dropbox, Facebook and Flickr.
PicMonkey is free to use but they do have a premium “Royale” option with more fonts, designs and effects that they have a 30 day free trial offer for.
iPiccy has all of the basic features that you would look for in a photo editing online app. You can add filters, effects, frames, retouches and even different layers.
Their layer editor is somewhat of a stripped down version of Pixlr which makes it pretty dope. Actually you can pretty much do everything that you can do in the previously mentioned tools to a degree so I definitely think iPiccy is something that the graphic design challenged entrepreneur should check out.
iPiccy is free to use and there is no need to register to utilize all of it’s features.
So yea, I saved the best for last. Canva is incredible online graphic design tool for entrepreneurs and it’s my favorite of all of the free online photo editors. It’s not the best of the group when it comes to actual photo manipulation but when it comes to creating eye popping graphics from scratch, this one is the best by far. It’s my secret weapon and I use it extensively.
As you can see in the graphic above they provide canvas templates of all sizes to start with along with some free background images for each size. There are always new images and templates being added but you’ll notice that around holidays they’ll add themed ones that look really nice. There is even a design ‘school’ that teaches you basic things like font and color selection to help the aesthetically challenged.
The only negative is that you can’t create transparent images, which is not really a negative but that would make Canva perfect and no one would really learn to use Photoshop!
So how does such a popular and useful tool make their money so that they can stay up to date? Canva.com supplies an extensive list of high quality images that you can include in your designs but you have to pay a dollar for each one that you use. Otherwise the site is free; you just to have to sign up for an account.
Using any combination of these 7 free online photo editors you or your assistant should be able to create professional graphics for your marketing…that is until you hire a graphic designer yourself. “DIY” can only take you so far but if you need to create a lot of content and you don’t have a budget yet you can definitely get by on your own using these tools, especially at first. So why not give them a shot?
